Relaxing in Phuket

We stayed with Kim’s parents for another few days for a relaxing getaway in Phuket. We stayed at the Horizon Karon Beach Resort, which was a nice treat from our budget traveling. (Note: This post is also lacking photos)

The three days were truly relaxing; we ate (a lot), slept, and swam each day. We also got our first taste of Thailand and were getting ready for the second half of our trip. Phuket really reminded us of Goa; it was a small but lively tourist beach town. Our resort was located on an uphill, and the beach was just across the bottom of the road (5 minutes). There were also many stalls and shops lined up along the large and small streets, but they were overpriced.

The four of us ventured to the Phi Phi islands one day and boy, was it a jam packed day. We visited Bamboo Island, Monkey Island, some pirate cove, and Maya Bay (where “The Beach” starring Leonardo DiCaprio was filmed). We decided to watch the film when we got back and now we know why it has 19% on Rotten Tomatoes… really beautiful islands though!

We also had two chances to snorkel, with the second time being way better (near the pirate cove). Unfortunately, the waterproof case we used to take photos underwater turned out to be not so waterproof so our photos kind of sucked (see below). But, the fish were really beautiful and we were able to see a huge variety, including Gill from Finding Nemo, a translucent long, thin, swordfish looking fish, and some rainbow fish. (P.S. Kim’s phone stayed in a bag of rice for about 24 hours and it is working fine now)

The two weeks spent in Hong Kong and Phuket seeing family and friends were really lovely. We love you and miss you all! Now we’re back on our own and excited to kick off the second half of our trip. Stay tuned for Chiang Mai and our motorbiking adventures!
